If your pool loses more than 3 centimeters (about an inch) of water during that time, there’s likely a leak.

Perform the Bucket Test

For a more precise check, do a bucket test. Fill a large bucket with water to the brim and place it on a pool step or a flat surface inside the pool, so the water in the bucket is at the same level as the pool water. Mark the water levels inside and outside the bucket. After 24 hours, check the levels again. If the water level inside the bucket is lower than outside, your pool probably has a leak.
